Excellent hanging basket plant for shady areas. Forms dense masses of thin, bright green stems which have tiny white flowers every now and then. Native to Brazil, where it grows as an epiphyte.
Rhipsalis capilliformis, Old man's beard, is an epiphytic, perennial cactus with pendulous cylindrical, jointed pale green stems and insignificant greenish white, lightly perfumed flowers. Unusual for a cactus, it grows in partial shade to full shade. Water regularly, but do not overwater. It is a good container plant. It is frost tender. Trim the plant to produce more dense foliage.
PLANT CARE
• Light: Thrives best in bright, indirect light with morning and evening sun
• Water: Allow soil to dry out between waterings
• Considerations: Rhipsalis cacti are quite slow-growing species, which is fortunate since some specimens can grow up to 20 feet long after many years.
